Position Title: Copy-Editor
Salary: 2 900 Euros Net / month + benefits

charge of improving animal health, veterinary public health and animal

will support the work of the Publications Unit in producing high-quality
publications by editing manuscripts to a high standard, providing editorial
guidance, and overseeing the work of freelance service providers. You will work as part of a small team consisting of the Head of the
Unit, the Sales and Marketing Manager, a Secretary/Translator who coordinates
the production of our trilingual magazine and edits the French-language
version, and a Secretary whose primary responsibility is coordinating the
peer-review process for the Scientific and Technical Review.
direct supervision of the Head of the Publications Unit, you will be
responsible for the following:
Editing manuscripts for the Scientific and
Technical Review (text, tables, figures and references) for accuracy,
clarity, consistency and completeness;
Corresponding with authors regarding changes to the
Coordinating the work
assigned to freelancers
Assigning work to freelance copy-editors and proofreaders
and highlighting possible problems;
Following up on assignments to ensure compliance with
Checking work carried out by freelancers
(suggesting additional modifications if necessary, re-contacting the author,
ensuring consistency across all manuscripts).
Assigning DOIs and preparing manuscripts and
figures for the typesetter;
Correcting proofs and liaising with the typesetter
to prepare papers for printing.
Participating in the
development of work processes
Updating the publications style guide;
Identifying and proposing relevant work tools.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences with at
least three to five years’ experience of writing and/or copy-editing;
A Bachelor’s degree in Literature,
Languages, Journalism, Media or related Social Sciences with at least three
to five years’ experience of writing and/or editing scientific texts;
Professional training in copy-editing and/or
proofreading skills would be an asset;
Experience with editing texts written by
authors for whom English is a second language would be an asset.
English as a first language;
Good knowledge of French;
Excellent written English and editing skills,
including impeccable spelling, grammar and punctuation;
Good knowledge of Word (e.g. templates,
styles, macros, and find & replace using wildcards) as well as PowerPoint
and Excel (for editing figures and graphs);
Strong internet search skills.
